Geotextiles are divided into filament geotextiles and short-filament geotextiles. Although these two types are geotechnical materials, they are different in many aspects.
1. The difference of production raw materials
Filament geotextiles are produced from high-quality polyester chip sources, and the raw materials are granular. The short-filament geotextile is made of PET polyester staple fiber, and the raw material is chemical fiber.
2. The difference in production process
The production process of filament geotextiles is that polyester chips are melted, stretched and shrunk, cut into staple fibers, and then machine-woven. The production process of short-filament geotextiles is opening, carding, messy, laying and needle-punching to make cloth.
3. The difference in appearance
Filament geotextiles are white in color, while short-filament geotextiles have shorter fibers and are brighter in color than white geotextiles.
4. The difference in performance
The breaking strength and other parameters of filament geotextiles are higher than those of short filament geotextiles.
5. The price difference
For geotextiles of the same weight, the price of filament geotextiles is generally higher than that of short-filament geotextiles.
6. Differences in Applicable Standards
The applicable national standard for filament geotextiles is “Geosynthetic Filament Woven Geotextiles” (GB/T17639-2008), and the applicable national standard for short-filament geotextiles is
“Geosynthetics – staple fiber needle-punched nonwoven geotextiles” (GB/T17638-2017).
